21DC2014 Day 24. Inspired By a Book – Frankenstein

31dc2014 inspired by a book frankenstein

Here’s my Inspired by a book mani, I may be cheating a bit by using imagery from the cover, But I honestly couldn’t have come up with anything better than this! lol

Frankenstein - Mary Shelly

Frankenstein – Mary Shelly

The polishes I used are

  • Nails Inc – Leather Effect Noho
  • Revlon – Black Magic
  • Chanel – Dragon
  • E.L.F – Matte Finisher
  • Barry M – Silver Nail Art Pen

red and black frankenstein nails

This is the first time I have used one of the Leather effect polishes from Nails Inc, I really like the subtle texture of this polish but I found the formula to be quite thick and it took ages to dry.

inspired by a book

The red polish is Dragon from Chanel, this polish seems to have turned into my go to red!

For the castle I used a thin brush it paint the image over two coats of black Magic from Revlon, then I added the little windows with the Barry M Silver Nail Art Pen. when it was dry I added the E.L.F matte topcoat.

frankenstein nails

For the lightning and the stitches I used the silver nail art pen, I didn’t add any topcoat so I wouldn’t cover the texture of the leather polish.

Moyou Nails Review!

Hi everyone! Today I have a review post for you, I had hoped to get this done last week but I ended up going away for work so I didn’t have the time. Booo!

Here are some rather lovely things from Moyou Nails!

These items where all sent to me for my honest review!

This is What The Lovely People At Moyou Nails Sent Me For Review

This is What The Lovely People At Moyou Nails Sent.

The package included

  • White stamping polish (my choice of colour)
  • Silicone stamper
  • Plastic scraper
  • Two image plates 101 and 103 (my choice of plates)
  • And the summer 2014 catalogue
Plates 101 and 104

Plates 101 and 103

Here are the stamping plates, they are 5.5cm across and have a paper backing, they are really nicely finished with no sharp edges and the etching looks very crisp and feels like a good depth.

Moyou Nails Stamper

Moyou Nails Stamper

Here is the (rather messy) stamper (I really should get a lint roll).

The stamping head is the same size as the large end of the Konad double ended stamper, I did find that the Moyou stamper is slightly firmer than the Konad one. It needed no preparation and it picked up the images really cleanly.

Glittery Owls

Glittery Owls

The first plate I tried is 101, look at those cute little owls!

The base polish is Skyscraper from China Glaze, I wanted to use a dark polish just to see how well the white stamping polish really works and as I was already wearing this polish and I thought it would be good to practice on, but it turned out so well I decided to keep it! :D

I have to say I was not disappointed with the stamping polish! I’ve only ever used standard polish for stamping in white until now, so I don’t actually have anything to compare this with, but the difference is remarkable! :D I think I’m going to have to try a few other colours from the stamping polish range! :D

Glitter Owls using Moyou Nails Plate 101

The second plate I chose is plate 103, I decided to try the zebra print design.

Moyou Nails Review Zebra Tips

Moyou Nails Review Zebra Tips

It turns out that french tip stamps are probably the most difficult kind of stamp to get lined up and stamped evenly, and this was my third attempt, as I have quite a pronounced c-curve to my nails I found it was very difficult to use the firm stamper so I ended up using my purple squishy stamper for this mani.

The base colour I chose is Yummy Mummy from Butter London and the black on the tips is Twilight from Filthy Gorgeous.

I used tip guides to get the lines sharp with the black polish, then a thick coat of Seche Vite for a smooth surface to stamp on.

I found it much easier to line up the image by pressing my nail onto the stamper rather than the other way around!

This is the first time I have used products from Moyou Nails and I have to say I am impressed with the quality of plates and the lovely stamping polish!

31DC2014 -Day 25 – Inspired By Fashion

Hallo! For day 25 of the (am I ever going to get this finished) 31DC2014 challenge, I have chosen this rather amazing dress from the Fall/winter 2014 collection from Alexander McQueen!

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2014-2015

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2014-2015

The whole collection is rather amazing! you can find more of the collection here

Anyway on to the nails!

Inspired By Fashion

I used Tickle My French-y from O.P.I for the nude base then the Black is Twilight from Filthy Gorgeous, and the white is Ivory Skull from Sally Hansen.

I have to admit that I’m not amazingly happy with how this turned out, It looked a lot closer to what I had imagined before I applied the top coat, the brush strokes gave it a lot more of a textured almost fuzzy look, rather than my nails looking a bit like moldy strawberries lol!

31DC2014 Inspired By Fashion

I started out with 3 coats of the O.P.I polish, it’s a lovely colour that I won in a giveaway along with 3 other O.P.Is :D I’ll post swatches and a proper thank you to the lovely lady who ran it when I eventually finish this challenge!

Then using a thin brush I painted on the zig-zag pattern and started to fill in the rest of my nail with the black, then I added the white in wiggly lines…

I’m annoyed that I didn’t think to take photographs before adding the top coat :/ but I had to take this off quite quickly because of having a job interview so I had to have slightly more sensible nails!

Inspired By Fashion

Even though this didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped (I’m going to blame the fact that I’m dreadfully out of practice) It’s not that terrible, I think this would look nice with replacing the white with a bright colour, maybe a neon blue or purple!

31dc2014 – Inspired By a Pattern

Hey everyone! :)

Today I have two very different attempts at the inspired by a pattern prompt!

Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to photograph my blue gingham nails  as soon as I had finished them so they all chipped and looking scruffy, so sorry about that!

Blue gingham Nails

For these nails I started out with a base of white on white from china glaze, for the gingham pattern I used a thin brush and my blue franken polish creation, you can find another post about it right here.

The black polish is Emotions from O.P.I It’s one of the Liquid sand range.

After I had finished the blue pattern I realized that I absolutely hated it! It looks like those dreadful plastic tablecloths! Ugh!

Purple stripe nails

Purple stripe nails

These where inspired by the pattern of my fluffy slipper socks lol!

I used two polishes for this, Poke from Illamasqua and Inkwell from Sinful Colors. I Have to say I’m much happier with this than the tablecloth nails! :)

I started off with a coat of Poke, then when the first coat was dry I added alternating stripes of poke and inkwell, while the polish was still wet i used a pin to break up the edges of the stripes to give it a slightly fluffy look.

It was so easy! I added a coat of Seche Vite and it was all done! :)

Hello! :D

Two posts in two days! oO this must be a miracle lol!

For today I decided to get messy and be inspired by Jackson Pollok!

I used the colours (well as close as I have in my stash) from his work Autumn Rhythm number 30.

You can find a out more about this piece Here

The polishes I used are

  • Color Club – Nomadic In Nude
  • Sally Hansen – Ion
  • Ciate – Pocket Money
  • Filthy Gorgeous – Twilight
Pollok Nails

Pollok Nails

I used two coats of Nomadic In Nude as the base, and then with a cotton bud (q tip) with both ends cut off I blew drops of the other polishes over my nails. I use a cotton bud rather than a straw as I found that I was picking up far too much polish and I was covering most of my hands as well as my nails!

I started with the darkest colour and finished with the lightest.

Then when they where mostly dry (it took ages) I added a thick layer of top coat!

Hello everyone!

For today’s inspired by a flag prompt I decided on the Japanese flag!

Inspired by the Japanese flag

Inspired by the Japanese flag

I started out with two coats of White On White from China Glaze as the base. Then using Dragon from Chanel and a thin brush I added the red!

The stamp is plate 02 from Moyou’s Suki collection.

White on white, Dragon and Konad SP Black

White on white, Dragon and Konad SP Black

This is the first time I have used my new marshmallow stamper, it’s such a different technique than using my usual firmer (but still squishy) one!

I think that with a bit more practice, (especially with the amount of polish on the stamping plate, and getting used to squashing my nail into the stamper rather than rolling it over my nail!)  it’s going to be my favorite! :D

I really have missed blogging soo much! It’s so nice to have the time to get back to regular posting :D

Hallo!

Here are my nails for day 29! Inspired by the supernatural. Or maybe things that go bump in the night!

The polishes I used are

  • Seche – Nouveau
  • Chanel – Dragon
  • Sally Hansen – Ion
  • Butter London – Frilly Knickers
  • Filthy Gorgeous – Twilight
  • Konad – SP Black
  • Sally Hansen – Greige Gardens

I also used stamping plates HD01 for the tree, HD03 for the gravestones and HD04 for the spider web.

Spooky Nails

Spooky Nails

I started out with a sponged gradient of  Greige Gardens and Ion, then with a tiny bit of sponge I added a small amount of Nouveau from Seche around the bottom edge of my nail.

When that was all dry I applied a coat of frilly knickers then a coat of Seche Vite.

After adding the stamps I used a thin brush to paint on the grass and added another coat of Seche Vite

For the spooky eyes I used my trusty dotting tools, along with Dragon for the red (it was the first bottle of red polish I found lol) and then with a tiny dotting tool some more Twilight.

Doing this really made me feel a lot better about having to cut my nails. :)

Hello! :D

This is my inspired by a tutorial post for day 30, The tutorial I decided to follow is this rather amazing one that I have been meaning to try for ages.

Nimbus Nail Art From The Nailasaurus!

Nimbus Nail Art

The polishes I used are

  • China Glaze – White on White
  • Chanel – Vendetta
  • China Glaze – Get Outta My Space
  • Revlon – Amethyst
  • China Glaze – Bizarre Blurple
  • Sally Hansen – Good To Grape
Purple Nimbus Nails

Purple Nimbus Nails

I found that the Nimbus technique is really fun! And definitely something that I’m going to try again!

I started out with a couple of coats of white on white as the base, then starting with Vendetta which is the darkest polish I used a cotton bud soaked in acetone and polish to dot on the colour.

When each colour was dry I repeated the process (with a new cotton bud for each colour)

Then I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite!

Purple Nimbus Nails

I couldn’t resist doing a bit of stamping over this :)

I used Plate MM07 from Messy Mansion, this is the first time I’ve used this plate and it’s really lovely! I used Konad SP Black then another coat of Seche Vite

Hello everyone! :)

This is my last 31DC2014 post! And how could I not do a celebratory water marble!

Purple Water Marble

Purple Water Marble

For this I used

  • China Glaze – White on White
  • Orly – Liquid Vinyl
  • Sally Hansen – Good To Grape
  • China Glaze – Bizarre Blurple

I have been a bit lazy with choosing the polishes for this and just grabbed the closest few on my desk. :D

Purple and Black Watermarble Nail Art

Purple and Black

I may have forgotten to use tape on my fingers, so the clean up for this took ages! Ugh, and I’m a little bit annoyed about not getting my little finger nail lined up as well as the others.

I really like this colour combination especially the blue iridescent flash from Bizarre Blurple.

Liquid Vinyl, Bizarre Blurple and Good To Grape

So, there it is the 31DC challenge all done, eventually… It only took me a couple of months longer than it should have… Ooops! :D

Tiger Stripe Caviar Stamped Nail Art

Hi! :)

Today I have some stamping over Caviar Beads to show you!

Ciate Caviar Pearls with Stamping

Ciate Caviar Pearls with Stamping

I didn’t come up with this idea, I saw it somewhere on the internets, and now I can’t find the post anywhere :( I would love give credit to who ever it is that came up with this amazing idea! :)

I used a Ciate Mini set that has been in my untried pile for ages. the set contains Cookies and Cream Polish and Caviar Pearls called Shooting Star.

Cookies and Cream, Shooting Star

Cookies and Cream, Shooting Star

Cookies and cream is a nude creme, the colour is similar to a very milky tea, for a light coloured nude polish it’s even too pale for me! I don’t know if it’s because it’s old but the application was an absolute pain! So it’s not one that I’ll be wearing on it’s own. and I’m glad the caviar pearls covered the bunching and the bald spots!

The pearls are a really pretty mixture of mostly gold along with silver, clear and iridescent dotted throughout.

I applied them according to the instructions on the box, and waited for around 20 minutes for them to fully dry.

The stamping plate is Moyou XL Pro 04, I decided on the tiger print as it’s a bold and simple image, I think stamp images with a lot of detail would get lost amongst the pearls!

I stamped over the pearls as I would usually stamp my nails, I did use my extra soft Marshmallow stamper, I don’t think that it would be possible to do this using a firm stamper, without firing the tiny pearls across the room…

Moyou XL Pro 04 Over Caviar Pearls

Moyou XL Pro 04 Over Caviar Pearls

I do think this is really pretty, unfortunately it’s clearly not something that would last more than a few hours.

Hi :)

Just a quick post today! Some simple red and black nails created with the help of some striping tape!

Come to Bed Red from Butter London and Barry M Black

Come to Bed Red from Butter London and Barry M Black

I started off with Come To Bed Red from Butter London, this is one from my untried pile! It’s a really lovely shade and was really easy to apply, but it unfortunately took four coats to be opaque so definitely not a polish to go for if you are in a hurry!

Then (when it was dry) I used striping tape to mark out the triangle shapes and filled them in with Barry M Black, I removed the tape while the polish was still wet so it didn’t remove the polish along with it.

For some reason I added some striping tape to my ring finger… It seemed like a good idea at the time, now I really don’t like it :/ Unfortunately I realized after I had added the top coat!

Come to Bed Red from Butter London and Barry M Black

my nails look so much longer!

This design really makes my nails look longer so I think I’ll try to ignore the offending bits of striping tape! :)

Nail Polish Dragon Eggs!

Hello I hope you are having a lovely weekend! :)

Today I have a nest of nail polish dragon eggs to show you!

Nail Polish Dragon Eggs

Nail Polish Dragon Egg

The eggs take a long time to make but I think the end result is worth it!

All you need for these are polystyrene egg forms, you can pick these up in most craft shops, Mine cost £2 for six, Drawing pins (or thumb tacks if your in the US) I picked mine up from Poundland. For these three eggs I used up just under 800 pins!

Oh yeah, you’ll need something to stick your pins in while your painting them, I used a cardboard box! Actually the part of making the eggs that took the longest was sticking the pins half way into the cardboard! It was so boring :/

I picked up some cheep black Laval polish (I didn’t want to use up of my nice/expensive ones on this) and used that to apply two coats to each pin, after the first coat I realized my mistake… I had to open all the windows, the Laval polish has a very VERY strong chemical smell. It might have just been the amount I was using but it was close to eye wateringly strong!

Nail Polish Dragon Eggs

Look at the sparkles!

After the pins where dry I added a coat of the colored polishes

Oh I didn’t make these at the same time! I made each of them over a few days, Trying to make all three at once may be a quick path to twitchy nail polish related madness! lol

Nail Polish Dragon Eggs

Black Polish with Models Own Purple Blue

For this egg I added a thick coat of purple blue from Models Own over the black, This one took the most pins to make around 350! and I used up nearly a quarter of the models own bottle oO Lucky I have quite a few polishes similar to this one!

Nail Polish Dragon Eggs

Elle’s Spell Dragon egg

This Egg was the first one that I made, and it’s definitely my favorite! I used a coat of Elle’s Spell over the black. It really is a shame the the duo-chrome glitter isn’t showing up in the picture :(

Nail Polish Dragon Eggs

Jess Pixie Dragon Egg

This little one was the last one I made, If I make any more I’m going to stick with this size! The Teal polish is Pixie from Jess. Looking at the picture I’m thinking I should have added another couple of coats of black to the pins as the teal polish is rather sheer so the manufacturing marks on the pin head are showing through!

Even tho it was a bit stinky and took a long time, I really like the end result of my dragon eggs! I’m now going to go find them a home somewhere in my book shelf! :D

Oh if you want to make your own here is a wonderful Dragon Egg tutorial from Accio Lacquer

Sparkly Striping Tape Nail Art!

Hi! :)

Today I have a sparkly mani I created using striping tape to show you.

Striping Tape Nail Art

Striping Tape Nail Art

for this I used

  • Rimmel Space Dust – Aurora
  • Filthy Gorgeous – Twilight
  • Striping Tape
  • Seche Vite

I began with two coats of Aurora, this is a really pretty polish! It is a slightly textured nude with loads of silver glitter, I added a thick coat of Seche Vite to even out the the texture to help stop the black polish from bleeding under the tape.

I used seven strips of tape for each nail, apart from my pinky which only needed six. Starting with my thumb nail I applied the tape, then carefully dabbed on the black polish, then using tweezers removed the tape while the polish was still wet. Then I applied another coat of Seche Vite over the top and continued with my other nails.

Glitter stripe nail art

Rimmel Aurora and Filthy Gorgeous Twilight

I never realized how much easier a decent quality striping tape is to use! There was no curling up, sticking to itself or refusing to stick to my nail!  :D

GOT Polish Challenge Over a White Base

GOT Polish Challenge Over a White Base

It seems like ages since I last posted nail art for the GOT Polish Challenge! But that’s probably because it has been ages :/

got-polish-part-2

For today’s prompt I chose a very simple stamped design, I used White on White from China Glaze… I think my bottle is now more polish thinner than actual polish… It’s probably time to retire it and get a new one!

I used Propaganda from Illamasqua to stamp the image, and the stamping plate is 07 from Moyou’s Suki collection.

Illamasqua Propaganda Over White on White China Glaze

Illamasqua Propaganda Over White on White China Glaze

Propaganda is getting to be a vhtf polish :( I have only found a couple of other dark blue jelly polishes with a similar colour intensity these are Blue-Topia from Color Club and L’orial Midnight Mistress.

Hi!

Today I have a Ruby Wing colour changing dotticure to show you!

Ruby Wing Crowd Surf

Ruby Wing Crowd Surf

I picked this bright pink one up in my local Sally’s and the shade is called Crowd Surf.

I applied two coats of Crowd Surf over my usual base coat, the formula for this polish is lovely and it dries really quickly which is always a bonus!

For the dots I used a medium dotting tool with Barry M Black, Orly Velvet Rope and Poke from Illamasqua.

Outside!

I really thought that it was only going to change colour a little bit. I was really surprised that it actually changes to much! I really like the dark purple shade!

Hi! :D

Today’s prompt for the Got Polish Challenge is “Over a black base”

Chanel black satin with sally hansen nail prisms

Chanel Black Satin with Sally Hansen Nail Prisms

So how could I not dig out some of my favorite polishes of all time!

Nail Polish

Black satin from Chanel is with out a doubt one of the best black nail polishes ever! the formula is still glorious (I have had this bottle for around 3 years now)

The other polish, poor thing, it’s looking rather well loved, is Turquoise Opal from the Nail Prisms range by Sally Hansen. These where first released back in 2002! I have owned this bottle for at least 7 years!

Lovely, lovely striping tape

Lovely, lovely striping tape

I used one thin coat of Black Satin, then a coat of Seche Vite, when it was dry I applied two strips of striping tape, and carefully added a thin coat of Turquoise Opal.

Then I removed the tape with tweezers and added another coat of Seche Vite.

Hallo! :)

After my last post I realized that I haven’t shown my Chanel polishes nearly enough love lately, so here they are in all their glory! :D

I have had these for quite a while so the bottles are looking a little on the “well loved” side… But if you are anything like me then that shouldn’t matter too much as it’s the scrummy insides that you want lol!

Chanel Black Satin

Black Satin

This is Black Satin, it’s probably the blackist black nail polish I own, this is two coats over base coat, but you could easily get away with one!

Chanel Black Satin 219

Black Satin

The formula is wonderful, creamy, self leveling and with the slightly longer bristles in the brush it really is one of the easiest black polishes to apply!

This intense red polish is called Dragon.

Chanel Dragon

Dragon

Dragon is a bright red cream, the formula is just as wonderful as Black Satin. This is also two coats, for some reason I completely forgot to wrap my tips Ooops!

Chanel Dragon 475

Dragon

This one is called Black Pearl.

Chanel Black Pearl

Black Pearl

It’s a shimmery dark silver grey, I find the formula for this polish to be a tiny bit thinner than the others, it wasn’t difficult to apply, just not as easy as the others.

I applied three coats, I really like the subtle iridescent shimmer in this polish, It makes the polish slightly different, and maybe a bit more special than all the other dark silver shimmers polishes out there!

Chanel Black Pearl 513

Black Pearl

This bright pink cream is called Splendeur.

Chanel Splendeur

Splendeur

This applied polish in one coat! the coverage is amazing! Splendeur is a fabulous pink, it’s almost a neon but still really glossy.

Chanel Splendeur 217

Splendeur

This is Paradoxical, it’s one of my favorites!

Chanel Paradoxical

Paradoxical

This is a lovely warm grey with a purple iridescent shimmer. this took two coats to be opaque and dries really quickly!

Chanel Paradoxical 509

Paradoxical

This is the classic Rouge Noir

Chanel Rouge Noir

Rouge Noir

Out of all of these polishes this was the most tricky to apply. The formula is slightly sheer/almost a jelly so this took three coats to be opaque, the colour is a lovely dark wine red and it’s incredibly glossy.

Chanel Rouge Noir 18

Rouge Noir

The last polish is Vendetta

Chanel Vendetta

Vendetta

This is a stunning dark purple, and the formula is amazing, it only took one coat and dried in about 60 seconds!

It was really difficult to capture the intense purple shimmer with my camera, it looks so much better in real life!

Chanel Vendetta 483

Vendetta

Vendetta, Paradoxical and Black Satin are definitely my favorites from my little collection of Chanel polishes!

I just have to keep telling myself to stay away from the Chanel counters when I’m out shopping just in case I “accidentally” buy all of them!

Hello :)

Matte Damask Nail art

Matte Damask Nails

I received my order of a few stamping plates from Born Pretty a couple of days ago and I couldn’t wait to try them out!

My package arrived a lot faster than I was expecting, I ordered four stamping plates, some french tip guides and some random water decals.

The plate I used today is QA90 and you can find it here.

Pelican Gray, Diamond Lurex, matte top coat

Pelican Gray, Diamond Lurex, matte top coat

I used Pelican Grey from China Glaze as the base colour, then added a coat of Diamond Lurex form L’oreal.

For the stamp I used Konad SP Black and my marshmallow stamper.  I followed that with a coat of Seche Vite, and then a coat of E.L.F matte finisher.

I think I have lost any ability I had (if I had any at all lol) to get the images lined up and even across all my nails… I guess I just need more practice! :D

Hi! :)

Purple Stripe Textured Nail Art

Purple Stripe Textured Nail Art

It’s Thursday so its GOT Polish Time again! The prompt for today is purple! Seeing as they where already on top of my polish pile I used a couple more of the Sally Hansen Nail Prisms, Burgundy Orchid And Ruby Sapphire.

Look at that colour shift!

I started out with a couple of coats of Ruby Sapphire, Then when it was dry I added the tape, then a thick coat of Black Magic from Revlon then while it was still wet I carefully applied a thick coat of Burgundy Orchid, and very VERY carefully removed the tape.

I did this one nail at a time, I think trying to do them all at once would be a world of sticky tape and polish horror…

Ruby Sapphire and Burgundy Orchid

I’m having to use a hand cream that I don’t really like since I ran out of my beloved Body Shop hemp hand protector… ugh this stuff is so slimy, and bits of fluff keep sticking to me :/

Anyway I didn’t add any topcoat so the ribbed (for her pleasure *giggles*) texture would be more apparent!

the tape took ages!

I think this is a really fun mani, but it took ages, definitely not something to do if your pressed for time :)

Seeing as this is a got polish challenge mani here’s the link to the pinterest page so have a look at all the other wonderful purple nails :)

Leadlight Nails!

Hello! :)

Today I have my first attempt at the leadlight technique to show you!

Leadlight Nail art

First attempt at leadlight technique

I started out by making my own Leadlight polishes! I brought a set of 24 mini (5ml) topcoats from Ebay, I had a few umm “issues” with the seller so it took almost a month for me to get them after ordering… Gah!

When they eventually got to me, I mixed a few drops of different coloured polish into each little bottle. I think I need to add a bit more colour to them as I found they are too sheer at the moment. Oh and I really have to invest in some mixing balls, so much shaking to get them mixed it felt like my hand might drop off :/

My Leadlight polishes

Starting from the top, the colours I have mixed so far are, magenta, pink, light blue, yellow, red, dark blue, green, black, dark purple and lavender.

I used Ivory skull from Sally Hansen as the base colour, then used Konad SP Black for the stamping. The plate I used was one of my new Born Pretty plates, it’s plate QA88 and you can find it right here

After the stamping polish dried I added a coat of Seche Vite, and started colouring in my nails I used the red, dark purple and dark blue polishes… I have to say the leadlight technique is a bit like paint by numbers nail art lol

When it was dry I added some Glitter top coat from Rimmel over the purple, then another thick coat of Seche Vite.

Even though my little polishes need a bit more work, I think for a first attempt this didn’t turn out too bad! :)
